The
‘Friends of Hanningfield’ Fly Fishing Club
Formed to assist the management in the running of the
reservoir, the club made major contributions toward the provision of
platforms for bank anglers and providing boat seats to replace the
uncomfortable slabs of wood! Work parties were organised to help clear banks
and site platforms until ‘safety at work legislation’ curtailed these
activities. The club now concentrates in training new fishermen, fly tying
classes and other activities together with the Fly Fishers

The clubs exist to help all fishermen
including novices and visitors . For assistance call the phone numbers listed by each club.
Various events are held throughout the
year, such as social evenings, guest speakers and fly tying.
This is a list of local fishermen willing to
partner others in morning, afternoon or all day boats. Ideal for visiting
fishermen without knowledge of the water.
So if you are thinking of giving it
a try......
Before you invest in any equipment
You must learn TO CAST to establish which LENGTH of rod and which WEIGHT of
rod is suited for you.
The average length of rod for both
bank and boat fishing is about 9'6" with a weight of about 8., but a casting
lesson with a qualified instructor will soon establish what is suitable for
you.
The various fishing lines that you
need will have to be the same weight to match the rod.
SO IF YOU BUY THE WRONG ROD YOU MAY
ALSO HAVE BOUGHT THE WRONG LINES!
Rods and lines may be loaned from
the tackle shop and the following club members are qualified casting
instructors: (they will charge for their services)

Hugh Nolan 01277 355325
Once you have learned to cast or
have had a fishing lesson and you need some help on bank or boat give either
of the clubs a call. Fishermen are a generous lot and are always pleased to
help.
